· when i was a kid before the dawn of Western Vegetarianism, i loved “hamburg”! As an old cook trying to get a bunch of guys with no appetites (damn Tina!) fed, i love it again. ·

My ground meat comes from the halal butcher (i’ll have no “culture wars” in my neighborhood, thanks!) at the supermarket next door. For us non-Muslims he has a version with a bit of fat left on the meat. I take that for making ground meat dishes that contain breadcrumbs, and the like.
The butcher is my age, and an quiet, observant sort. He was a bit leery of my appearance at first (though never impolite). Over the past few years in which i have been his patron we have developed a good business relationship, and maintain a warm-hearted, gentlemanly tone with one-another. He gives me whopping rebates when he can. Bless him.

So if you are ever in Schöneberg, visit the supermarket at the corner of Dominicusstraße and Hauptstraße. They have a great deli, and good specials on produce.
