The Julie Project: Family Love
The outcome of a 21 year collaboration between Julie Baird and the photographer Darcy Padilla.
The photo series “Family Love” was recently shown at the Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin-Kreuzberg as part of the exhibit, World Press Photo 15. Despite a great deal of clucking and head-shaking by the ostentatiously concerned, visibly well-situated visitors, the exhibit itself presented an overview of several topics that made recent headlines, and the majority of the photos aimed to confront and engage the viewer, not solely to entertain. “Family Love” was the most relevant to my experience of three quieter, less high-profile submissions that caught my attention, the remaining two of which i hope to describe in up-coming posts.
