Street scene near Warschauerstr. Berlin-Friedrichshain bathed in the orange light of the East.
The street lights in the East are orange, and in the West they are white.
This (image right) is an image of Berlin at night taken from the ISS commander Chris Hadfield, which he originally posted on his Twitter Account it is striking that twenty years after the (re-)unification of Germany (and Berlin) the line between East and West Berlin is still so clearly visible.
The orange street lights have even found their way in to contemporary German popular music. In the well-known German Hip-Hop artist Sido’s song “Bilder im Kopf” he sings Ich bin im osten aufgewachsen bis ich 9 war…orangenes licht und graue Häuser, dann der aufbruch ins neuland … (I was grew up i the East until i was 9 … orange light and grey houses, then the move to unknown territory …)
